What is Clinical Psychology?
Clinical Psychologists are trained to an exceptionally high level to support people with a variety of difficulties including Anxiety and Panic Attacks, Phobias, Stress, Post-Traumatic Stress, Depression and Interpersonal Difficulties.
Clinical Psychologists complete a three year doctoral training programme in Clinical Psychology and are registered with the Health Care and Professions Council (HCPC), the professional body who regulate the profession (www.hcpc-uk.org)
Clinical psychologists work with individuals of different ages with emotional and psychological distress which disrupts their everyday functioning. They aim to explore and reduce psychological distress and improve emotional well-being.
Clinical Psychologists work with people to develop a shared understanding of their difficulties and consider this alongside an individual’s goals to help to inform the most appropriate type of psychological intervention.
Clinical Psychologists draw upon the NICE guidelines (www.nice.org.uk) and the wider evidence base to inform therapeutic work, but also work collaboratively with those they support to create a service tailored to the idiosyncratic needs of the individual.
